The Final Evaluation「Unit 13」

At the end of this course I feel like I half answered the question for the course as I had made a short surreal animation, however, I feel like I didn't explore surrealism as much as I want as I only had looked at four secondary sources and one primary. Although I had little research source I became really inspired by them with René Magritte's use of using everyday objects to make environments being a large part of the project as the whole story is based on it.

At first, the research had given me a basic idea of what I wanted to do for the project but besides that, I had pretty much winged the whole thing from the characters to the art style. I realized that I started to wing it when it was pointed causing me to try to use the research more and I would have to say it only changed what the animation looked like.

My original plan for the animation was to make a stop-motion mixed with hand-drawn animation as I saw that most of the people I had research had used two styles that contrasted as a way to make their work stand, however, I didn't get too far with the stop-motion as I got bored with it and I tested the hand-drawn animation. that went well but took too long. I then moved on over to using rotoscoping on Photoshop and that was the first since 2 years I had used it so it took a while to get used to using it and even then I didn't get too used to it. I tried the hand-drawn thing again but on adobe animate and I didn't learn the lesson cause that took me awhile to make a couple of seconds of animation.

During the project, I had learned to use a photoshop as well as using a graphics tablet this really came in handy as it had cut down the amount of time it took to make the animation. I ended up using a combination of using photoshop and a graphics tablet to make the characters and backgrounds and adobe animate to make the overall animation. I had to use abode premiere to slow down the animation however because of the animation is sped up whenever I exported straight from
animate. I finally went with an old idea I had of just making separate parts of a character then using those parts like puppets.

The things that went the animation in the end very well well although I think adding sound to it would make the animation 20% cooler than it already is and I'm pretty surprised that I got a single piece of primary research done most of the time I plan to get done then something happens to like  having no money to get to the area or no one is able to take there or just being straight up lazy and not the following throw with the plan . I also gained a bit of knowledge about making an animation under a deadline as well as making an animation independently which will help a ton if I do get into the Youtube thing as more then a dumb hobby.

I think the strongest part of the project would have to be the animation but that could just be a huge bias as I had a lot of fun coming up with a story, making the characters and just making the animation as a whole. but the weakest part of the project would have to be my organization skills as I kept forgetting to update my blog with research, plans and other stuff to do with the project.

If I had extra time on this I would try to improve on evaluations and concept art as I feel like those two things are really lacking compared to everything else in the project I think I would do this by well drawing more and trying to get over my lack in confidence in my evaluating skills and evaluate or at least ask for help. in fact, I feel like uploading to the blog a lot more would make the project 10 times better then it is right now. I also feel like I hit my target audience of the random person as this could pretty much

I learned that I shouldn't get caught up in my own thoughts as it led to me having to do some stuff last minute as well as messing some stuff like the midway evaluation. I have also learned how useful primary research can be if used right as I had never really tried doing primary research beforehand.
